Jeff has a Master's in education from Minnesota State University Mankato and joined the ACES team in September 2011 with 17 years experience in education. A founding staff member of Park Spanish Immersion School, his most recent position was as parent involvement specialist at the Minnesota Parent Center, where Jeff used his skills and experiences to build connections between school staff and families to increase student achievement. Jeff has language skills in Spanish and French, and his mission is to ensure every student has the tools and support to achieve his or her goals. He invites you to share in that mission.
Program Coordinator, St Paul
Rebecca joined ACES as a Volunteer Coordinator and moved into the St Paul Public Schools Coordinator role in December 2013. She initially interacted with ACES during her two years of AmeriCorps service as the Tutoring Coordinator at Farnsworth Aerospace PreK-8 Magnet. Rebecca is a 2010 graduate of Hamline University. Her previous youth development experience includes teaching English at a university in Shanghai, China, facilitating Model United Nations conferences for middle and high school students, and volunteering as a student-mentor at Hamline Elementary.
Program Coordinator, Minneapolis
Gurayn is looking forward to bringing her energy to the role of Program Coordinator for Minneapolis. She has worked with ACES since 2012, serving first as a Team Leader in 2012-13 and then as a Site Leader in 2013-14 at Farnsworth Aerospace Middle School. Her passion for mentoring youth was ignited in college when she worked as a camp counselor. Since then, her youth work has included volunteering as a tutor for an after-school youth center, working in children's theater, and serving as a youth worker for the St. Paul Department of Parks and Recreation. Gurayn has a B.A. in Studio Art with a minor in Art History from Augsburg College.
Steve began with ACES as a Site Leader at Green Central School and quickly rose through the ranks. His youth experience includes two years as an AmeriCorps VISTA with the St. Paul Public Schools Foundation at Ramsey Junior High, coordinating volunteer tutors to work with students struggling with reading and math. He also spent a year teaching English at a university in Southern China after graduating from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2010, conducting lessons on everything from basic grammar to the history of Western popular music. As ACES Volunteer Coordinator, Steve looks forward to engaging with ACES volunteers to foster an experience that enriches both student and tutor.
Engagement Coordinator, Hazel Park Preparatory Academy (St. Paul)
Julianne joins the ACES Team for the 2013-14 school year as an AmeriCorps VISTA, serving at Hazel Park as the Engagement Coordinator. Julianne graduated from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia this past May with a degree in psychology, focusing on child development. She was involved in leadership opportunities both on and off campus. Julianne has volunteered with Learning Disabilities of Nova Scotia, tutoring children who were at least one year behind in reading and writing. Julianne plays a key role in developing programming at Hazel Park and assisting ACES students and their families.
Liz McLoone Dybvig joined the 2014 ACES team as our part-time Development Specialist. Born into a large Irish Catholic family with a tradition of serving their community, Liz brings a decade’s worth of experience in advocacy development for both non-profits and political campaigns. With a passion for building community and civic engagement, she has been on the Community Health Advisory Board for the St. Paul & Ramsey County area and spent years mentoring young professionals and interns. Liz brings with her a vision to foster a more aggressive and holistic approach to the great things we do here at ACES.
Site Leader, Linwood Monroe Arts Plus School (St. Paul)
Mona returns to ACES for the 2013-2014 school year following a successful year as Site Leader. She holds a degree in English Education, Theater and Coaching from the University of Minnesota. Her professional background includes working as a sports camp director, NCAA YES clinic director and Ramsey County Teen Pregnancy Project project coordinator. As an avid supporter of public education, Mona has volunteered in St. Paul Public Schools as a reading tutor, drama club director and Art Adventures Presenter.
