ACES at the Minnesota Zoo!

On August 23, a group of ACES students and staff took a trip to the Minnesota Zoo in conjunction with the Lead Forward Collaborative, an ACES community partner. Upon arrival, students immediately raced to Discovery Bay to witness the feeding of the sting rays, see the sharks, touch the sea urchins and anemones in the tide pool, and watch the dolphin show.

“The dolphin show was my favorite part,” said fifth-grade ACES student Aidee. “They are so smart! I took tons of pictures!”

After their adventures at Discovery Bay, students enjoyed watching Russian grizzly bears swim in their pool, marveled at the size of the Burmese python (and the fact that it only has to eat once a year!), and fawned over the two baby snow monkeys as they played with their mother.

“I’d say this was a very successful field trip,” said ACES AmeriCorps Promise Fellow Emily Vogel. “The students had fun and learned a lot about the animals!”
