Fall 2010 Semester Recap
The fall 2010 semester provided many exciting learning opportunities and events for ACES and its students. Here are some notable highlights:
- ACES provided more than 8,000 hours of in-class academic tutor/mentor programming for 300 students.
- ACES doubled its student capacity by adding two new locations, with Olson Middle School in Minneapolis and Maxfield Elementary in St. Paul joining Monroe and Green Central schools on the ACES roster
- ACES represented the Minnesota Vikings and the NFL in the league’s Play 60 initiative. ACES students participated in on-field pre-game festivities then watched the Vikes crush the Bills!
- Hamline track and field student-athletes explored the benefits of athletics with Monroe students and gave them a taste of drills and warm-ups. Students had a great time as they exercised and recorded their times and scores from each activity.
- Macalaster College held the Macalaster Kids Judge Science Fair, where ACES students participated in learning and fun while experiencing the atmosphere of a college campus.
- Monroe students headed to the state capitol for the Lights on Afterschool Rally to support afterschool programs.
- Thanks to a technology grant from Boston Scientific, ACES launched a middle school technology initiative this year to help seventh and eighth grade students bridge the "technology gap". ACES thanks the more than 75 volunteers who contributed their time and care to make the fall 2010 semester a valuable and memorable one for students!
