Service & Ceramics
On Saturday, March 26, ACES middle school students and their E-Mentors, plus their ACES Program Coordinators, arrived at the Northern Clay Center eager to learn more about ceramics. For the past several years, ACES students have enjoyed the privelege of learning about clay and pottery from the experts at Northern Clay Center. This was the first time, however, they had the chance to use the "wheel" to make clay projects.
The students listened intently to instructor Karin, as she walked them through the process and demonstrated wheel-throwing. Students were delighted to express their creative sides via this exciting new art form. As many students don’t have access to art classes at school, this event was a great way to provide arts-based enrichment.
“This is really cool,” a student exclaimed as he experimented with his clay. “I’ve never done this before.”
At the end of the morning, students painted their projects, which will then be fired. They also received a tour of the Northern Clay Center and viewed professional potters’ creations.
Students learning about and creating with clay always makes for a great day!
